SISYRINCHIUM, in botany: A genus of plants belonging to the class of gynandria, and order of trian-dria; and in the natural system ranged under the 6th order, Ensat. The spathia is diphylous; there are 6 plane petals. The capsule is trilocular and inferior. There are two species, the bermudiana and palmifolium.
