URANOSCOPUS, in ichthyology, a genus of fiſhes belonging to the order of jugulares. The head is large, rough, and depreſſed, the upper jaw being ſhorter than the under one; there are ſix dentated rays in the membrane of the gills; and the anus is in the middle of the body. There are two ſpecies, one of which is found in the Mediterranean Sea.
