STRYCHNOS, in botany: A genus of plants belonging to the class of pentandria, and order of monogynia; and in the natural system ranking under the 28th order, Luride. The corolla is quinquefid; the berry is unilocular, with a woody bark. The species are three, the nux vomica, colubrina, and potatorum, natives of foreign countries.
