PENDENNIS, in Cornwall, at the mouth of Fal-mouth-haven, is a peninsula of a mile and a half in compass. On this Henry VIII. erected a castle, opposite to that of St Maw's, which he likewise built. It was fortified by Queen Elizabeth, and served then for the governor's house. It is one of the largest castles in Britain, and is built on a high rock. It is stronger by land than St Maw's, being regularly fortified, and having good outworks.
