PINEAU (Severin du), who died at Paris in 1619, was a native of Chartres, and first surgeon to the king of France. He was very skilful in lithotomy; and has left behind him, 1. A Discourse concerning the Extraction of the Stone in the Bladder, published in 1610 in 8vo. 2. A treatise De Virginitatis Notis, printed at Leyden 1642, in 12mo. This last performance, however useful it may be to men of science, we would not venture to recommend to the perusal of young people, on account of some particulars which it was perhaps unnecessary to expose to the eyes of the public.
