OSCULATION also means the point of concurrence of two branches of a curve which touch each other. For example, if the equation of a curve be $y\; =\; \backslash sqrt\{x\}\; +\; \backslash sqrt\{x\}$, it is easy to see that the curve has two branches touching one another at the point where $x\; =\; 0$, because the roots have each the signs + and -.
