DIESIS, in Music, is the division of a tone less than a semitone; or an interval consisting of a less or imperfect semitone.
Diesis is the smallest and softest change or inflexion of the voice imaginable; it is called a faunt, expressed thus X, by a St Andrew's cross or saltier.
