ETHMOIDES, in Anatomy, a bone situated in the middle of the basis of the forehead or os frontis, and at the top of the root of the nose, filling almost the whole cavity of the nostrils. It has its name from ἥμος, cribrum, "sieve," and ἔθος, "form," because all spongy and porous. See ANATOMY Index.
