ARMENE, or ARMINA, anciently a hamlet of Phylagonia, (Ptolemy). The inhabitants encompassed it with a wall, because of the coldness of the place, imagining by that means to render it warmer. But this proving ineffectual, gave rise to the proverb Armenen muro cingere, used to express some egregious folly.
