ÆCULANUM, in Ancient Geography, a town of the Hirpini in Italy, at the foot of the Apennines, to the east of Abellinum, contrasted Æculanum, situated between Beneventum and Tarentum. The inhabitants are called Æculani by Pliny; and Æculanenses, in an ancient inscription (Gruter). The town is now called Friceno, (Cluverius), 43 miles east of Naples. E. Long. 15. 38. N.
