AMARYNTHUS, in Ancient Geography, a hamlet of Eretria, in the island of Euboea, about seven stadia distant from its walls. Here Diana was worshipped in an annual solemnity, at which those of Carystus assisted; hence the title of the goddess was Amarynthis and Amarysia.
