OFFICIAL, in Pharmacy, an appellation given to such medicines, whether simple or compound, as are required to be constantly kept in the apothecaries shops. The official simples are appointed, among us, by the College of Physicians; and the manner of making the compositions directed in their pharmacopoeia. See MATERIA MEDICA.
