MOESIA, or MYSTIA, in Ancient Geography, a country of Europe, extending from the confluence of the Savus and the Danube to the shores of the Euxine. It was divided into Upper and Lower Mœsia. Lower Mœsia was on the borders of the Euxine, and comprehended that tract of country which received the name of Pontus from its vicinity to the sea. Upper Mœsia lay beyond the other in the inland country.
