MYRTOUM MARE, a part of the Ægean sea, lying between Eubœa, Peloponnesus and Attica. It receives this name from Myrto a woman, or from Myrtos a small island in the neighbourhood, or from Myrtulus the son of Mercury who was drowned there, &c.
