MARANS, a rich town of France, in the territory
of Aunis and diocese of Rochelle, seated among salt
marshes, near the river Sevre, three miles from the sea.
It carries on a very great trade in corn; and is seated
in W. Long. 0. 54. N. Lat. 46. 18.
