JAMYN, AMADIS, a celebrated French poet in the 16th century. He is esteemed the rival of Ronsard, who was his cotemporary and friend. He was secretary and chamber-reader in ordinary to Charles IX. and died about 1585. He wrote, 1. Poetical works, two vols. 2. Philosophical discourses to Pasicharis and Rodanthe, with seven academic discourses. 3. A translation of the Iliad of Homer, begun by Hugh Sabel, and finished by Jamyn; with a translation into French verse of the first three books of the Odyssey.
