HYPERBATON, strictly so called, is a long retention of the verb which completes the sentence, as in the following example from Virgil:
Interea Reges: ingenti mole Latinus
Quadrifugo vehitur curru, cui tempora circum
Aurati bis sex radii fulgentia cingunt,
Solis avi specimen: bigis it Turnus in albis,
Bina manu lato crispans hastilia ferro:
Hinc Pater Aeneas, Romane stirpis origo,
Sidereo flagrans elypeo et caelestibus armis;
Et juxta Asecanus, magnæ spes altera Romæ:
Proceedunt castris.
