PATER PATRATUS, was the name of the first and principal person in the college of heralds called Feciales. Some say the Pater Patratus was a constant officer and perpetual chief of that body; and others suppose him to have been a temporary minister, elected upon account of making peace or denouncing war, which were both done by him.
