COSTA-RICA, a province of North America in New Spain, and in the audience of Guatemala, bounded on the north-east by the Northern ocean, on the south-west by the South sea, on the north-west by Nicaragua, and on the south-east by Veragua. The soil is not very fertile, though there is plenty of cattle. Carthagena is the capital town.
