HERD, among hunters, an assemblage of black or fallow beasts in contradistinction to stock. See FLOCK.—In the hunting language there are various terms used for companies of the divers kinds of game. We say a herd of harts or bucks, a bevy of roes, a roux of wolves, a riches of martens, &c.
