HESBON, ESEBON, or Hesbon, in Ancient Geography, the royal city of the Amorites, in the tribe of Reuben, according to Moses: Though in Joshua xxi. 39. where it is reckoned among the Levitical cities, it is put in the tribe of Gad; which argues its situation to be on the confines of both.
