GRAVITATION, in Natural Philosophy, is sometimes distinguished from gravity. Thus M. Mäupertus takes gravity for that force whereby a body would fall to the earth; but gravitation for the same diminished by the centrifugal force. See NEWTONIAN Philosophy.
