HORNSEY, a town in Yorkshire, 188 miles north from London, and 15 from Hull. It is almost surrounded by a small arm of the sea; and the church having a high steeple, is a noted sea-mark. Not many years ago there was a street here called Hornsey-beck, which was washed away by the sea, except a house or two. The inhabitants amount to about 500.
