LONGTOWN, a town of Cumberland, on the Scots borders, near the conflux of the Esk and Kirksop, 9 miles from Carlisle, and 313 miles from London. It has a market on Thursday, and a charity school for 60 children. The population in 1811 was estimated at 1579.
