ANTI, in matters of literature, is a title given to divers pieces written by way of answer to others, whose names are usually annexed to the anti. See the Anti of M. Baillet; and the Anti-Baillet of M. Menage: there are also Anti-Menagiani, &c. Caesar the dictator wrote two books by way of answer to what had been objected to him by Cato, which he called Anti-Catones; these are mentioned by Juvenal, Cicero, &c. Vives assures us, he had seen Caesar's Anti-Catones in an ancient library.
