ANTINOUS, the favourite of Adrian, was born at
Bithynia in Bithynia. His beauty engaged the heart
of Adrian in such a manner, that there never was a more
boundless and extravagant passion than that of this em-
peror towards this youth. After his death, the emperor
ordered divine honours to be paid him; and he also
erected a city of his name. See ENFINE.
