FLORENCE, an ancient piece of English gold coin. Every pound weight of standard gold was to be coined into 50 Florences, to be current at six shillings each; all which made in tail 15 pounds; or into a proportionate number of half Florences, or quarter pieces, by indenture of the mint: 18 Edw. III.
