OFFICIAL, in Pharmacy, an appellation given to such medicines, whether simple or compound, as are required to be constantly kept in the apothecaries shops. The official simples are appointed by the College of Physicians; and the manner of making the compositions directed in their pharmacopoeia. See MATERIA MEDICA.
