COURSES, a name by which the principal sails of a ship are distinguished, viz. the main-sail, the foresail, and the mizen: the mizen stay-sail and fore-sail are also sometimes comprehended in this denomination; as are the main stay-sails of all brigs and schooners. See SAIL.
