CRASSIS, in Grammar, is a figure whereby two different letters are either contracted into one long letter or a diphthong. Such, e. g. is εφισ for εφισ; αλδιν for αλδιν, &c. τογης for τογης, &c. where i and u are contracted into i; and i and u into u; and i and o into o.
