GLARIS, one of the cantons of Switzerland, is
bounded on the east, partly by the Grisons, and partly by the territory of Sargans; on the north, by the bailiwick of Gaster, and by the lake Wallesatt; on the east, by the canton of Schwits; and on the south, by part of the canton of Uri, and part of the league of the Grisons. It is a mountainous country, and contains about 20,000 inhabitants.
