CEREAIA, in Botany, from Ceres, the goddess of corn; Linnæus's name for the larger esculent seeds of the grasses: these are rice, wheat, rye, barley, oats, millet, panic grass, Indian millet, holcus, zizania, and maize. To this head may be likewise referred dandel (tolium); which, by preparation, is rendered esculent.
