KIRKBY-LONSDALE, a town of Westmoreland, 253 miles from London. It has a woollen manufactory, and a market on Tuesday. It has a free school well endowed with three presentations to Christ's college, Cambridge. It has a large church, and a good stone bridge of three arches over the Lon. From its church-yard and the banks of the river, there is a very fine prospect of the mountains at a vast distance, as well as of the course of the river, which abounds with salmon, trout, &c.; and provisions of all sorts are very cheap here. The number of inhabitants in 1811 was 1368.
