LEITRIM, a county of Ireland, situated in the province of Connaught, is bounded on the north by the bay of Donegal and part of Fermanagh, on the south and west by Sligo and Roscommon, and on the east by Fermanagh and Cavan. It is a fruitful county; and, though mountainous, produces great herds of black cattle; but has few places of note. It contains 206,830 Irish plantation acres, 21 parishes, 5 baronies, and 2 boroughs, and formerly sent six members to parliament; and is about 42 miles long, and 17 broad.
