IMPARE, in Heraldry, is to conjoin two coats of VOL. XI. Part I.

arms pale-wise. Women impale their coats of arms with those of their husbands. See HERALDRY.

To impale cities, camps, fortifications, &c. is to inclose them with pallisades.

To IMPALE, or Empale, signifies also to put to death by spitting on a stake fixed upright.
