BOIOBI, in Zoology, the name of a species of serpent found in America, and called by the Portuguese cobra de verd. It is about an ell in length, of the thickness of a man's thumb, and is all over of a very beautiful and shining green. Its mouth is very large, and its tongue black. It loves to be about houses, and never injures any creature unless provoked or hurt; but it will then bite, and its poison is very fatal. The natives take as a remedy against its poison, the root cau apia bruised and mixed with water. See Cau Apia.
