AZMER, or AJMEER, a town of the East Indies, capital of a province of the same name, with a very strong castle. It is about 62 leagues west from Agra. The principal trade of this province is in salt-petre. It was in this city that Sir Thomas Rowe had the honour of being introduced to the great Mogul in 1716.
