WEXFORD, a sea-port of Ireland, capital of a county of the same name. It was once reckoned the chief city in Ireland, being the first colony of the English, and is still a large handsome town, with a very commodious harbour at the mouth of the river Slane, on a bay of St George's channel, 63 miles south of Dublin.
