ACRON, in Geography, a territory on the Gold coast
of Guinea, in Africa, bordering on the Fantee country.
The Dutch have a fort here called Fort Patience;
and under it is a village, inhabited only by
fishermen. The other inhabitants are addicted to hus-
bandry, and sell their corn to other countries. There
is plenty of game, which is very commodious for the
Dutch factory. The people are very ignorant, and go
naked like the rest of the negroes. This is called Little
Acron; for Great Acron is farther inland, and is
a kind of a republic.
