ÆGIDA, (Pliny); now Capo d'Istria the principal town on the north of the territory of Istria, situated in a little island; joined to the land by a bridge. In an inscription, (Gruter), it is called Ægidis Insula. E. Long. 14. 20. N. Lat. 45. 50. It was afterwards called Iustinopolis, after the emperor Justinus.
