PALINURI PROMONTORIUM (Virgil, Velleius), with a cognominal port, was situated at the south extremity of the Sinus Pæstanus on the coast of Lucania: so called from Palinurus, Æneas's steerman, who there perished (Mela, Dionysius Halicarnassensis).
