MONTGATZ, a town of Lower Hungary, in the county of Pérczas, with a strong fortress. It is encompassed with a great morass, and art and nature have rendered it almost impregnable. It was defended by the prince's Ragotiky, wife of Count Tekeli, when besieged by an army of the imperialists, who were obliged to raise the siege in 1688. E. Long. 21. 55. N. Lat. 46. 26.
