CASTILE, OLD, a province of Spain, with the title of a kingdom. It is about 102 miles in length, and 115 in breadth; bounded on the south by New Castile, on the east by Arragon and Navarre, on the north by Biscay.

Castile Biscay and Asturias, and on the west by the kingdom of Leon. Burgos is the capital town.

Casting Castile-de-Oro, a large and fertile country in South America, lying to the west of the Oronoko. It comprehends eight governments; viz. Terra Firma, Proper Carthagena, St. Martha, Rio de la Hacha, Venezuela, New Andalusia, Popayan, and the kingdom of New Granada.
