CHARONDAS, a celebrated legislator of the Thurians, and a native of Catanea in Sicily, flourished 446 before Christ. He forbade any person's appearing armed in the public assemblies of the nation; but one day going thither in haste, without thinking of his sword, he was no sooner made to observe his mistake than he ran it through his body.
