M E M B E R S, in Anatomy, the exterior parts, arising from the trunk or body of an animal, like the boughs from the trunk of a tree. M E M B E R, in Architecture, denotes any part of a building; as a frieze, cornice, or the like. M E M B E R is sometimes also used for moulding. M E M B E R, in Grammar, is applied to the parts of a period or sentence. M E M B E R, is also used to denote some particular order or rank in a state or government: thus we say, "member of a corporation, member of parliament, member of the council, &c."
