ASYNDETON, in Grammar, a figure which omits the conjunctions in a sentence. As in veni, vidi, vici, where et is left out; or in that of Cicero concerning Catiline, abijt, excessit, evasit, erupit: or in that verse of Virgil,
Ferte cito flammas, date vela, impellite remor.
Asyndeton stands opposed to polysyndeton, where the copulatives are multiplied.
