BATAVA (Cesara under flood), a citadel of Vindelicia, so called from the Cohors Batava, in garrison under the commander in Rhetia: now Passau: being first called Batau, from the Batavi; then Bassau, and Passau; situated in Bavaria, at the confluence of the Danube, Inn, and Ills. See PASSAU.
