BELLATRIX, in Astronomy, a ruddy glittering star of the second magnitude, in the left shoulder of Orion. It takes its name from bellum, as being anciently supposed to have a great influence in kindling wars, and forming warriors. Its longitude, according to Hevelius, for the year 1700, was ; and its latitude southward .
