BETHARAN, in Ancient Geography, a town of the Peræa, or on the other side Jordan. Said to be called Livia, or Libias, in the Greek manner, by Herod in honour of Livia, (Eusebius, Jerome); and of the same latitude almost with Jerusalem, (Ptolemy); called Julias by Josephus, who always calls the Livia of Augustus lia.
