ASOR, or HAZOR, in Ancient Geography, a town of the tribe of Judah, to the south-west, on the borders of Ascalon, (Joshua); as also Haſor-Hadata, translated by the seventy Aræz Kaur (id).—Another Asor, Asorus, or Hazor, a town of Galilee; called the capital of all the kingdoms to the north of Palestine. It was taken by Joshua; the inhabitants were put to the sword, and their houses burnt. It was afterwards rebuilt (Judges, 1 Sam.); but remained still in the hands of the Canaanites, though in the lot of the tribe of Naphtali, (Joshua). It lay to the north of the Lacus Samachonites, called in Scripture the Waters of Merom, (Josephus).
